Every piece of art feels like it is using me to create it. The art has something in mind and no matter how I try to add my own idea of what it should be, the art refuses to play along. It knows what it wants to look like and it’s best if I don’t interfere. For this reason, if you commission a piece, it can be the subject matter that you chose, but the final project will be whatever comes out of the pen.
I believe the art knows it has a home with the person who eventually buys it. It was looking for you all along.

Absolutely beautiful art work that is unique and local to the Columbia Valley and surrounding National Parks (Yoho, Banff and Kootenay). All persons that received your cards for gifts have commented on how much they appreciate how you have combined art with sense of place. Example- the grizzly bear and mountain goat cards with map of National Park in background. The colours used and wildlife design are stunning. I look forward to see more of your work!
Yes I really like using maps as a background and look forward to exploring other old papers with text and illustrations as canvases.

I’m so glad to have found Juanita and her art. It speaks to me and touches my heart . These are animals and birds of my home captured in a unique and beautiful way. The cards and stickers are a wonderful way to share with friends and family . My Christmas cards this year are Snow Birds and Winter Bear. I’m such a fan!
I came across Juanita’s work while passing through Golden on a ski trip. I stopped at a local Ranger station to learn about the area, and coincidentally I saw several small prints of Juanita’s work. I bought a few postcards, along with a few stickers for my kids. The designs were idiosyncratic and mesmerizing. I sent all the postcards to family members. I put the stickers on my kids’ water bottles. And I was left with nothing but longing…so I reached out to Juanita, to learn more about her work. The prints did/do not capture the true essence of her work. It’s the thoughtfulness of expression, built on top of genuine maps of the Canadian Rockies, as well as the three dimensional media that made me intrigued enough to commission a personal piece. It now sits in my entryway to my house — a fox. There is depth and soul in this fox. Wise, yet ephemeral. The sinuous shapes that make up the whole of the fox are the true genius behind the work — looked at alone they are like individual leaves blowing in an autumn wind, a glimpse of a shadow, or a trick of the eye, yet together, they make up a truly unique piece that is bold and staunch and substantive that I’ll appreciate for a very long time. Absolutely recommend Juanita’s craft work!
From the first time I saw Juanita’s beautiful artwork, I knew a piece was out there meant for me. My fiancé and I live in TX and are moving south into a charming stucco home – which we have named LoveShack – as is the name of our current home & our Airstream travel trailer. While scrolling through her original art I came upon a cabin with hearts in the windows and a larger one on top of the smoke coming out of the chimney & knew immediately let that it was “THE ONE” .
During one of our many delightful email exchanges, and completely unprompted by me, Juanita told me that this piece was called LOVESHACK!
It’s absolutely beautiful, and is so representative of our life together.. I cannot wait to share it with my love over the holidays and see it daily in our new home.

I am the most fortunate owner of one of Juanita’s custom pieces and it is absolutely gorgeous, unique, and has so much depth to it! Our visitors can enjoy it for it’s beauty and my husband and I can enjoy it for the layers of artistic thought Juanita put into it’s creation and personalization for us. An absolute showstopper.
